more Leofoo Village Theme Park traces its origins to the Leofoo Safari Wildlife Zoo, founded by Mr. Zhuang Fu, founder of Leofoo Development. Known for his modest, sincere character and commitment to giving back to society, Mr. Zhuang frequently traveled throughout Taiwan and around the world for business. During his travels, he was impressed by the emphasis placed on quality of life in many countries. As an entrepreneur in the leisure and recreation industry, he believed it was his responsibility to help create a better quality of life for the people of Taiwan. With this vision, in 1979 he invested in the development of the 73-hectare Leofoo Safari Wildlife Zoo in Guanxi, Hsinchu. At the time, it was introduced as Taiwan’s only open-range wildlife park and the largest of its kind in the country.

From that point onward, Leofoo Development established a strong connection with Hsinchu and grew together with the local community. In 1990, with the goal of giving back to society and responding to the government’s efforts to improve leisure and tourism facilities, the company began planning Leofoo Village Theme Park. In 1991, Leofoo Development commissioned U.S.-based Battaglia Associates Inc. to undertake the detailed planning of the park. The project incorporated themed areas inspired by distinctive cultures and settings from around the world, including the American Wild West, South Pacific, Arabian Palace and African Wildlife Kingdom. Covering approximately 100 hectares, the themed areas were gradually completed and opened to the public beginning in June 1994.

Today, Leofoo Village Theme Park features four major themed areas: the American Wild West, African Village, South Pacific and Arabian Palace. According to the original introduction, its notable attractions include the “笑傲飛鷹” roller coaster, described at the time as the second of its kind in the world and the only one in Asia; Grand Canyon Whitewater Rafting, featuring what was described as Taiwan’s largest artificial waterway; the pirate ship ride “大海盜,” described as the largest in Taiwan; Volcano Adventure, described as Taiwan’s largest and only attraction designed to provide two ride experiences in a single journey; the large-scale free-fall attraction “大怒神”; the 360-degree forward-and-reverse rotating “風火輪”; and Sultan Adventure, completed with an investment of NT$1.2 billion.

In addition to these thrilling attractions, Leofoo Village retains its open-range wildlife park. According to the original introduction, it is currently described as Taiwan’s largest open-range wildlife park, home to approximately 70 species and nearly 1,000 animals, allowing visitors to observe wildlife at close range.

In 2002, Leofoo Village developed a two-hectare Monkey Park after taking over the care of the former “ㄅㄆㄇ猴園,” which had been unable to continue operating after suffering serious damage. According to the original introduction, the new area was developed as the largest rare-species educational zone in Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

In the summer of 2004, the park introduced a rare white tiger described at the time as the only one in Taiwan. In the summer of 2007, it launched BIRDS FLY HIGH, an international-scale large-bird performance that had taken two years to plan and was described as the only one of its kind in Taiwan.

At the beginning of 2008, the large-scale thrill ride 3G Old Oil Well was introduced and was likewise described as unique in Taiwan at the time.

In 2010, Leofoo Resort Guanshi (關西六福莊) opened. The original introduction described it as Taiwan’s only ecological leisure resort hotel at the time, bringing five-star boutique hospitality to Hsinchu.

In 2012, Leofoo Tourism Group invested NT$390 million to create a Greek-inspired resort water park. According to the original introduction, it was Taiwan’s only Greek-style resort water park at the time. The water park is divided into two areas: the Greek Resort Area, inspired by the architecture of the Greek islands, and a Water Recreation Area featuring several thrilling water slides introduced as firsts in Taiwan, together with a wave pool suitable for families. The original introduction also described it as Taiwan’s first water park to place particular emphasis on architectural theming.
